Reductil Appetite Suppressant

When a person is unable to lose weight through a sensible weight loss diet and exercise, a physician may choose to prescribe Reductil, an appetite suppressant that contains Reductil hydrochloride monohydrate. However, this is usually only done in circumstances in which a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more exists. The only exception is if the BMI is 27 and the individual in question also suffers from high cholesterol or type 2 diabetes. Reductil to Promote Weight Loss

The 2 newest antiobesity drugs to enter the market, orlistat and Reductil, both promote weight loss when used with a reduced-calorie diet in the long term treatment of obesity.

Weight loss is maintained in most patients, but present experience is limited to 1 year with Reductil and 2 years with orlistat.

The drugs work by very different mechanisms of action – orlistat prevents fat absorption whereas Reductil enhances satiety – and have disparate tolerability profiles. The most common adverse effects are oily stools, flatus and faecal urgency with orlistat and headache, dry mouth and anorexia with Reductil. Reductil can also increase blood pressure and heart rate.

Reductil Effects

How It Works

Reductil is approved as a weight loss agent for up to one year to treat obesity. It works by increasing feelings of satisfaction and fullness after eating, known as satiety.

Although Reductil is approved for use for up to one year, many health care practitioners suggest limiting use to 8 to 12 weeks due to the risks of cardiovascular complications. When prescribed for weight loss, it should be used in combination with a low calorie diet and an exercise plan. Taking Reductil may result in a 5 to 10% weight loss when combined with dietary control and exercise over six months. After six months, very little additional weight loss occurs. Reductil has also been effective when combined with other weight loss treatments inclucing fat sequestering medications such as orlistat.
